I've been a member of the Alamo "Insiders" and have used its "Drive Happy Deal" to get decent cars when I've traveled. I had no reason to believe it would be different when I booked a car for the Labor Day weekend, driving to Virginia Beach from the Norfolk Airport.
I prefer alamo because I hate always having to have a big deposit available at other car rental companies. Alamo is honestly faster and often times better prices as well. I love there click it and save deals. Staff here is always super nice.
Overall, had a great experience renting from Alamo. The only problem was the counter at ORF was staffed by only one employee on a busy Sunday morning, and Alamo's printer was having problems. So there was a bit of a wait, but that one employee couldn't have been nicer or more adept at her job. We got a great car at a good price, and returning it was easy.
I rent from Alamo on a regular basic. Manager and crews at Norfolk airport provided excellent services. The best out of all Alamo I dealt with (15 locations)
That was my mistake. When we got there, we were informed that the only cars allowed to be booked through this program were mini-vans and pickup trucks, neither of which were really suitable. We were then told that we could, for an additional daily fee, get a smaller car. At that point, the options are limited, so we took the smaller car...and got stuck with a bill of $245 for the long weekend. That's on top of the $115 we already paid in advance for the car.
Never again. Never Alamo. If this bait and switch is how they treat people who register with them, I can't imagine how they treat new customers.
