I was appointed a lawyer who barely cares and had to push him to believe that I was being victimize by the spouse. The judicial system is a business for Virginia; females or males can easily abuse the process. They are allowed to go to the magistrate constantly and file a false crime. The citizens who barely makes ends meat have to find a way to pay so that they can remain free citizens..... Your state of Virginia truly knows how to oppress the low income citizens.
What ever you do make sure you do not meet crazies and stay away from the court systems especially if you are male and a minority. Norfolk Judges and Virginia beach Judges will lock you up without hearing your story. I had paper work that could have easily proved my case (copies of photos of text message and job schedule print out to prove my whereabouts) I was not spoken to during my trial and the judge immediately made her decision as soon as I sat down.
Stay away from courts, DO NOT GET APPOINTED A LAWYER WORK HARD TO PAY FOR ONE. PERIOD!!!!
The worst ever, I separated from a spouse who is rageful and her whole family are bipolar but sticks together. She files with the magistrate false testimony and have her sisters back her up with stories against me. Being that I am new to Virginia I heard this state caters more to females and she obviously proved that.
Horrible, unjust--with older, biased judges who rule against those without attorneys present in spite of requesting continuance based on financial hardship to obtain counsel. I have also been advised by victim advocates AND magistrates, Sergeants in the NPD that my particular situation is so unheard of and based solely on hearsay and laughable, unsubstantiated testimony by, for all intents and purposes, "witnesses" with whom I have had no contact in 4 years. (my attorney was not present but the case was heard anyway) the overall opinion of local family law advocated and lawyers is that a couple of the judges are about to retire and just don't care anymore I had one of them and now I am spending every cent I have to get my daughter back when I never should have lost her to begin with CPS is a joke Norfolk Social Services is a joke and Norfolk Juvenile Domestic Relations Court is a joke.
and stay away from females that can't handle a break up. Old Judges will lock you up especially if you are Caribbean descent
