Viewable in a single day, this zoo is still worth returning to several times at least.
The Virginia Zoo is a tightly run ship, and they were professional and prepared when we first came to them, giving us a wedding packet with all kinds of great information, such as venue prices and preferred vendors. Throughout the whole process, they were helpful and attentive, and when my day of coordinator, Crystal from the Cherry Blossom Planning Factory, took over, they seamlessly brought her up to speed.
The zoo has clearly put a great deal of effort into improving its facilities in recent years, and the effort shows in well laid out paths giving maximum viewing of well maintained exhibits. Even the farm area is well done, allowing children to be close to animals they may not generally have exposure to.
My husband and I got married at the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk, Virginia in September and have only wonderful things to say about it! From the moment we decided upon the zoo as our venue, family and friends told us what a unique and fun idea it was, and we were not disappointed.
Wonderfully laid out zoo with lots of land and fresh exhibits. They have a baby giraffe that's fun to watch. They have two year old tigers but no elephants at this time. Fun for the kids and grownups also.
Very well laid out zoo, with modern enclosures for most animals giving them a chance to roam while still being visible from the paths.
We had a great time and now have a year-long zoo membership – what a great way to remember our wonderful experience getting married at the zoo!
I had an awesome time here! I can't wait till they finish the newer exhibits. Tons of cool animals. Some of the employees spoke with me about some of the animals. Went during the week so it wasn't crowded. Lots of interesting plants and trees around the park as well. It has changed so much in the last 15 years.
My best friend got married here so I think I had a different experience than that is a regular guest, but regardless I had a great time! It's a beautiful place. The main entrance reminded me of the facade at Disneyland Paris.. very nostalgic and whimsy. The staff were all excellent here. During the dress rehearsal it was bitterly cold and when I asked obey of the employees where I could find a cup of coffee, he called back with a whole dispenser and cups for the whole wedding party! During the day of the wedding, I did get to go around the zoo and see the animals. I liked the circular layout, it made it easy to navigate. I thought the walkthrough area with the kangaroos was neat, although they were already hiding! If I lived in Virginia, I think this would be a regular stop for me! Oh and a side note... We saw a peacock just strolling through the parking lot as were leaving! The experience never ended there!
We got married in the event pavilion and had about 125 people, and it was perfect. Guests were able to eat, dance, and hang out if they wanted to, but they were also free to roam around the zoo all day (great for kids!!) and nearly everyone took advantage!!
